What is Rugby?

Rugby is a popular sports game that is played around the world. There are two types of rugby: rugby union and rugby league. Rugby union is usually played in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe, while rugby league is usually played in Australia and New Zealand.

The rules and regulations of rugby union and rugby league also differ. A game of rugby union consists of two teams of 15 players each, 8 of which are forwards who obtain possession of the ball, and 7 of which are backs who carry and move the ball. The defensive team starts the game by kicking the rugby ball, releasing or passing the ball to a teammate if tackled; however, a player cannot pass the ball forward. The game will temporarily stop if a rules violation occurs, if two opposing players grab the ball, or if the ball goes out of bounds. A team scores by making a goal or a try. A goal refers to kicking the rugby ball through the goalpost, while a try refers to touching the ball to the ground in the goal area.

In rugby league, a game consists of teams of 13 players each, 6 of which are forwards and 7 of which are backs. The defensive team starts the game, and play continues until the ball is tackled. The main difference between rugby union and rugby league is that the ball remains played after a tackle: a teammate may kick the ball backwards to another teammate. If a team is tackled six times before scoring a point, then possession of the ball must be surrendered. A team scores four points for downing the ball in the goal zone, two points for a penalty kick, and one point for a field goal kick.

Rugby is an exciting sport both to play and to watch. It has been around for centuries and continues to serve as a popular pastime among athletes and sporting enthusiasts throughout the world.
