Gower denies talk of league comeback

Italy's Australian born fly half Craig Gower says he is fully focussed on the World Cup in New Zealand in September and October and refuted speculation that he will return to rugby league.

The 33-year-old is a former Kangaroos international but has played union since 2008 when he joined Bayonne in France.

In the autumn he injured his cruciate knee ligament and was forced to undergo an operation which saw him miss the Six Nations.

But despite recent reports that he is angling towards a return to rugby league, he insists he is committed to the Italian World Cup cause.

"I am completely concentrated on my recovery following the operation on my knee," he said.

"My only aim for the moment is to compete for the Azzurro (Italy) shirt in the World Cup in September and October, as long as I am able to physically.

"I'm out of contract with Bayonne and I've left open every door.

"Where I go after that is still undecided but, I repeat, I want to play at the World Cup with the blue (Italy) shirt."
